Enam tahun lalu NASA menemukan tanda-tanda bahwa kita sebenarnya memang tak sendiri di galaksi ini. Ada bentuk kehidupan lain yang berada jauh di sana. Sayangnya, usaha untuk mempelajari bentuk kehidupan lain ini malah membawa bencana buat manusia, setidaknya mereka yang terinfeksi saat pesawat yang seharusnya meneliti bentuk kehidupan ini kandas.
Pesawat luar angkasa yang bertugas mengumpulkan sampel ini kehilangan kendali dan jatuh di perbatasan Meksiko dan Amerika Serikat. Tak perlu waktu lama buat isi dari pesawat ini untuk bersentuhan dengan penduduk bumi. Dan tak perlu waktu lama juga buat penduduk bumi sampai terinfeksi oleh makhluk yang belum dikenal ini.
Tak ada jalan lain selain menutup area ini. Mereka menyebutnya Infected Zone dan sampai saat ini pun baik pemerintah Amerika maupun Meksiko masih mengalami kesulitan untuk menjaga area terinfeksi ini. Saat Andrew Kaulder (Scoot McNairy) sepakat untuk mencari dan mengantar pulang Samantha Wynden (Whitney Able), artinya mereka berdua akan melintasi zona terlarang ini.

Six years ago NASA finds signs that we are indeed not alone in this galaxy. There are other life forms that are far away. Unfortunately, efforts to study other life forms is even disastrous for humans, at least those who are infected when the aircraft is supposed to investigate these life forms aground.
Spacecraft, which collected the sample is lost control and crashed on the border of Mexico and the United States. It did not take long for the contents of this aircraft to come into contact with the inhabitants of the earth. And it did not take too long for the earth's population to become infected by this unknown creature.
