Legenda tentang Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) memang tak pernah ada habisnya. Arwah gentayangan pria yang semula adalah pembunuh anak-anak ini terus menghantui. Hampir tak ada yang bisa lepas dari kekejaman Freddy karena ia mampu membunuh siapa pun hanya melalui mimpi.
Semasa hidupnya, Freddy Krueger adalah pembunuh yang telah membantai berpuluh-puluh anak. Nasib pria yang suka mengenakan topi ini akhirnya harus berakhir di tangan masa yang membakarnya hidup-hidup. Semula orang-orang mengira bahwa kekejaman Freddy sudah berakhir. Namun ketika beberapa remaja mulai dihantui mimpi buruk tentang pria bertopi dengan cakar yang terbuat dari pisau, barulah mereka sadar bahwa ancaman Freddy belum berakhir.
Serangkaian peristiwa brutal ini berawal ketika Nancy Thompson (Rooney Mara) mulai mengalami mimpi buruk dikejar-kejar pria bertopi. Penasaran dengan mimpi buruknya ini, Nancy pun mulai mencari tahu masa lalu kota tempat tinggalnya. Dari sana Nancy mulai menyadari bahwa orang yang ada di dalam mimpinya adalah Freddy Krueger yang telah meninggal beberapa tahun silam. Celakanya, Freddy kini memiliki kemampuan untuk membunuh lewat mimpi yang artinya Nancy dan teman-temannya tak lagi bisa tidur sampai mereka menemukan cara untuk mengalahkan Freddy.
Selain FRIDAY THE 13TH, urban legend lain yang juga sama populernya adalah A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Saking populernya legenda ini sampai difilmkan sebanyak 9 kali dan masih dianggap cukup prospektif mendatangkan uang. Kali ini bukan kelanjutan dari FREDDY VS. JASON yang dibuat namun remake dari bagian pertama yang muncul di tahun 1984 lalu. Kenapa remake? Alasan satu-satunya yang cukup masuk akal adalah tidak adanya lagi ide baru dan dengan perkembangan teknologi dunia film saat ini maka kemungkinan membuat 'versi perbaikan' dari bagian pertama memang terbuka lebar.
Relevan? Tidak juga. Selain kemungkinan membuat film ini lebih bagus dari sisi visual memang tidak ada alasan untuk membangkitkan lagi legenda Freddy Krueger. Dari sisi cerita kita semua jelas sudah tak asing lagi, apalagi remake ini juta tak berusaha membuat penafsiran baru selain menambahkan status paedofil pada Freddy yang semula hanya suka membunuh anak-anak.
Dari sisi akting, tak banyak yang bisa diharapkan dari film seperti ini. Tapi kalau mau berharap, bisa jadi film ini pun akan mengantar salah satu pendukungnya ke jajaran aktor/aktris papan atas seperti yang terjadi pada versi tahun 1984. Kalau versi pertama kemudian mengantarkan nama Johnny Depp, siapa yang kira-kira bakal naik pamornya kali ini?

The legend of Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) there is never ending. Ghost haunts the man who initially was the killer of these children continue to haunt. Almost no one can escape the cruelty of Freddy because he was able to kill anyone just a dream.
During his life, Freddy Krueger is a killer who has slaughtered dozens of children. The fate of a man who liked to wear this hat must ultimately end up in the hands of the burn you alive. At first people thought that the atrocities Freddy's over. But when some teenagers started to be haunted by nightmares about the man's hat with a claw made of knives, then they realize that the threat has not ended Freddy.
A series of brutal events of this started when Nancy Thompson (Rooney Mara) started having nightmares chased the man hat. Intrigued by this nightmare, Nancy began to look out past the town where he lives. From there, Nancy began to realize that the person who is in his dream was Freddy Krueger who had died several years ago.
