Dancing With the Stars Season 12

Ocimnet - First up is the pair of Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas. She's best known from her career on the Disney Channel. She sites her desire to do Dancing with the Stars because of the fact that she was home schooled in high school and didn’t get to go to any dances of her own. She’s in good hands with Mark Ballas who has won the show twice. The two seem to have a connection in the footage of their rehearsal time.

They start the first week with a fox trot that they dance to Sara Bareilles’s “King of Anything.” They get praises from Len for being the first couple to dance, and he says that they are “fresh.” Bruno calls Chelsea’s performance “pure afterglow,” though he does also encourage her to find control in her dancing. Carrie Ann tells Chelsea that she has a lot of potential. They get a 7 from Carrie Ann, a 7 from Len, and a 7 from Bruno, setting the bar high on the first night with a combined score of 21.

Next up is Wendy Williams with her partner, Tony Dovolani. Wendy Williams hosts a talk show. She thinks that Dancing with the Stars will help to be an outlet for her enthusiasm and liveliness. Wendy seems to be having an emotional time with the show, and is already crying in the first rehearsal that is shown.

Wendy and Tony dance the cha-cha to the tune of “I’m Every Woman” for their first dance. Bruno tells Wendy that he wants to see more of her “fire and personality.” Carrie Ann tells Wendy that she knows that she’s scared, but she needs to unleash herself. Len says that Wendy has to bring her personality onto the floor. They score a 5 from Carrie Ann, a 4 from Len, and a 5 from Bruno, giving them a 14.

Next up are Hines Ward and Kym Johnson. Hines Ward plays football on the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a Super Bowl MVP. He says that he’s ready for Dancing with the Stars after a loss in this year’s Super Bowl. He is certainly enthusiastic and eager for Kym to teach him.

Hines and Kym dance the cha-cha to “Club Can’t Handle Me.” Carrie Ann calls their performance the “sparkliest cha-cha” she’s ever seen. Len says it was clean and confident. Bruno tells Hines that his timing was perfect, and he also tells him to work on his posture. When their scores are announced, they get a 7 from Carrie Ann, a 7 from Len, and a 7 from Bruno. This gives them 21, and they are tied with Chelsea and Mark.

Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin will dance next. Petra says she decided to do Dancing with the Stars because she wants to “live life fully.” Petra has been injured in the past when she broke her pelvis in a 2004 tsunami, and when she heard about the tsunami in Japan, Petra was overcome with emotion. She dedicated her first performance to everyone suffering from the current disaster in Japan.

They dance the fox trot to Norah Jones’s “Don’t Know Why.” Len says that their routine has charm, but he wants Petra to work on her posture. Bruno compliments her on her beauty and sophistication, and he tells her that she must make every aspect of the dance strong. Carrie Ann tells Petra that she’s stunning and has natural grace. She also offers advice, saying that there were some illegal lifts in the dance, so they should try not to do that in the future. Petra and Dmitry earn a 6 from Carrie Ann, a 6 from Len, and a 6 from Bruno, giving them an 18.

Romeo and Chelsie Hightower are up next. Romeo was supposed to be on an earlier season of the show, but ended up not being able to make an appearance. Romeo is a rapper and actor. Romeo says that he’s on the show for redemption after his dad stepped in to take his place and is remembered for getting bad scores.

Chelsie and Romeo dance the cha-cha to “Romeo” by Basement Jaxx. Bruno starts his comments by quoting Shakespeare. He tells Romeo that he had a good performance, but there are still major changes that he has to make. Carrie Ann tells Romeo that he has sexual energy with his partner and a lot of potential, but he needs to work on his posture. Len tells Romeo that he has a lot of energy, but it comes off as carefree and casual. They get a 7 from Carrie Ann, a 6 from Len, and a 6 from Bruno, giving them a total of 19.

Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya are the next couple to be introduced. Sugar Ray is best known for his boxing career and was the first boxer to win titles in five different weight classes. Sugar Ray is having trouble getting the dance steps, though he recognizes that he was incredibly good at moving in the boxing ring. He is determined to succeed though.

They dance the fox trot to “The Power of Love.” Carrie Ann tells Sugar Ray that he lights up the dance floor, and she can tell that he will be a fan favorite. She tells him to work on his posture. Len says that the dancing level was low in this dance. Bruno tells Sugar Ray that he didn’t quite have it this week. They get their scores. Carrie Ann gives them a 6, Len gives them a 5, and Bruno gives them a 6. They end up with a total of 17.

Next up is Kendra Wilkinson and Louis Van Amstel. Kendra is on Dancing with the Stars to learn the techniques of real dancing because she’s only had experience dancing in the clubs. She’s really excited to be partners with Louis because she thinks that their personalities will mix well.

They dance the cha-cha to “When Love Takes Over.” Len tells Kendra that the content of the routine was fantastic. Bruno says that she can “strut her stuff,” but she needs to make the routine cleaner. Carrie Ann tells her that she went for every move in a hard routine, but she still needs to work a bit to clean it up. Carrie Ann gives her a 6, Len gives her a 6, and Bruno gives her a 6, giving them a total of 18.

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff will dance next. Ralph is best known for The Karate Kid. Karina gets Ralph to work right away, and he is extremely critical of himself, wanting to do well and get the steps perfect.

Ralph and Karina dance the fox trot to “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head.” Bruno tells Ralph that he’s a hit. Carrie Ann says that Ralph’s performance was an amazing surprise and that he has a lot of elegance. Len tells Ralph that his dancing was rough around the edges, but he has great potential. When the scores are announced, Carrie Ann gives them an 8, Len gives them an 8, and Bruno gives them an 8. This is a 24 and the highest scores of the night so far.

Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke are next. Chris has 29 championships in the WWE. Chris says that he’s used to moving around in wrestling and is ready for the challenge on Dancing with the Stars. While in rehearsals, Chris admits that he had no idea how hard dancing would be.

They dance the cha-cha to “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” Carrie Ann says that Chris has power, but he needs more content in his dancing. Len says that the dance had energy, but he needs to work on his movement. Bruno says that Chris’s dancing was entertaining, though at times it was messy. Carrie Ann gives them a score of 7, Len gives them a 6, and Bruno gives them a 6. This gives them a total of 19.

Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer are the next couple to tackle the dance floor. Mike is best known for his radio show with Dr. Drew, Loveline. Mike says that he’s the least well known celebrity on this season, so he thinks this could help him in some way. Mike has a great sense of humor for learning the dance steps.

Mike and Lacey dance the fox trot to “Cooler Than Me.” Len tells Mike that he didn’t have a lot of dance quality in his performance. Bruno agrees with Len, saying that Mike’s performance was a bit uncoordinated. Carrie Ann says that Len and Bruno are being hard on Mike. She compliments him on keeping up but says that his movement is jerky. When the scores come in, Carrie Ann gives them a 5, Len gives them a 4, and Bruno gives them a 4. They get a total of 13.

Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy are the final couple to dance and perhaps the most anticipated. Kirstie says that she’s doing the show as a challenge to see how far she can push herself. She is determined to get the steps, despite the fact that she’s older than a lot of other competitors.

They dance the cha-cha to Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You.” Bruno tells Kirstie that he likes what he sees, and he tells her that her foot placement was the best of the night in this dance. Carrie Ann tells her that her dancing was unbelievable. Len says that the dance was fun and entertaining. The judges give them their scores.
