Lionel Messi Wins UEFA Best Player in Europe 2010/11

Daftar Lengkap Pemain Terbaik UEFA di Dataran Eropa 2010-2011 - Lionel Messi has won the Award for UEFA Best Player in Europe 2010/11, presented at the UEFA European Season Kick-Off in Monaco, on Thursday 25th August 2011, in a live-voting ceremony following the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League Group Stage Draw.



The award is given following votes cast from 53 journalists – at least one from each member Federation which makes up UEFA. Each journalist is requested to select their top three players from the 2010/11 season, with the top choice receiving 5 points, the second choice receiving 3 points, and the third choice receiving 1 point.





The top three players from the first round of voting were Xavi Hernández, Lionel Messi – both of FC Barcelona – and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who faced off in a live round of voting at the Grimaldi Forum, Monte Carlo, Monaco, shortly after the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League draw.



Speaking after the award, Lionel Messi told a packed auditorium that, in addition to thanking his team-mates, friends and family, he was looking forward to continuing – as a club – to picking up additional silverware in future.



This is the first ever time the “UEFA Best Player in Europe” award has been given, making Lionel Messi the inaugural holder of the title, which replaces the European Footballer of the Year Award.
